Pride Foundation is the only LGBTQ+ community foundation with board and staff members based in Anchorage, though our work extends throughout Alaska—with much of the vast state inaccessible by roads.
Alaska is one of 27 states without statewide laws to protect people on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In the face of this statewide political reality, several communities have updated their non-discrimination laws, including Anchorage (secured by voters in 2018), Juneau, and Sitka.
Despite these challenges, our community’s work to address these inequities is creative, determined, and filled with passion. We hope you take a moment to read about the initiatives, grantees, and scholars that are building a better, safer, and more equitable Alaska.
