Karen Zeman is the energetic Executive Director of Spirit of Youth, which is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska. One of Spirit of Youth’s programs, Alaska Teen Media Institute (ATMI), collaborated with Anchorage Youth Development Coalition (AYDC) as part of a Pride Foundation grant to develop an instructional video that trains youth service providers about creating inclusive environments for LGBTQ youth. Karen’s passion for youth was re-ignited when one of her youth died by suicide shortly after coming out—it solidified her commitment to creating a community where all young people feel cherished and connected while being who they are, where they are. We are so proud to continue working with people like Karen and Spirit of Youth in the service of preventing bullying and ensuring youth are supported and feel involved in the issues that matter most to their lives in Alaska and across the Northwest.
