Estate Planning Workshop for Professional Advisors highlighting Ric Weiland’s bequest to the LGBTQ Movement
Ric Weiland, one of Microsoft’s first five employees, passed away in 2006, leaving an unprecedented charitable gift to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. His $65 million bequest remains the largest single gift to the LGBTQ movement, and has supported Pride Foundation’s philanthropic work over the course of the past eight years.
This workshop will address issues of estate planning and charitable transfers utilizing Ric Weiland’s estate gift as an in-depth case study. In this, the final year when the donor-designated portion of Ric Weiland’s bequest will be distributed, there are a number of lessons to share about the professional planning and distribution of significant charitable bequests. The workshop will feature two attorneys who specifically worked on the planning and distribution of Ric’s bequest, a financial planner who will discuss investment considerations, and Pride Foundation—to speak directly about the impact of the bequest on the greater community.
