Welcoming Josh Hemsath, Our New Alaskan Staff Member

Pride Foundation is pleased to welcome Josh Hemsath as the new Regional Development Organizer for Alaska!

For the past two years, Josh has served Planned Parenthood of Montana as Outreach Educator in the Billings, Montana area, facilitating support groups for teen mothers, and strengthening leadership skills at local high school GSAs. Drawn to return to the state he calls home and the natural beauty it brings, earlier this year, he returned to Alaska and currently serves on the board of the ACLU of Alaska, and is enrolled part-time in UAA’s Master in Public Health program. Josh will begin work at Pride Foundation in late May.

Josh’s first exposure to Pride Foundation was as a student at Montana State University, where he served for three years as the Queer-Straight Alliance’s president. Several of close friends and students were Pride Foundation scholars, and the Alliance also applied and received a small Pride Foundation grant to help expand their Coming Out Week programming.

“I am excited to join the Pride Foundation team, whose mission, vision, and values resonate strongly with me. Most of all, I am excited to meet with and hear the stories of the passionate and dedicated folks who make a huge difference in the largest state in the country.”

Josh brings experience leading change in the LGBTQ community along with extensive experience in training and coalition development, program management, and electoral campaign work. His experience will be valuable in his role sustaining local partnerships with Pride Foundation constituents across the state of Alaska, developing and supporting local leaders, and raising visibility of the LGBTQ and allied community.

We are so delighted to have Josh as part of the Pride Foundation team! Please join us in welcoming Josh and please be in touch if you have any questions or to get involved with our work in Alaska.

PS: Come meet Josh in person at the Pride Foundation 20th Anniversary Celebration on June 6th. Celebrate 20 years of supporting students in our community and honor this year’s scholars on Thursday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m. at The Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage. RSVP today!
