Over the holidays, the community and the movement lost a friend, community leader, and visionary in Andrew Quainton of Fairbanks, Alaska. Originally from Chicago, Andrew moved to Alaska nine years ago in search of a change of pace after surviving the September 11th World Trade Towers attack in 2001. Andrew undoubtedly made Fairbanks a better place by donating his time and energy to numerous organizations, including the University of Alaska Museum—where he worked for 7 years, the Interior AIDS Association, KUAC, the Interior Democrats, the Fairbanks Concert Association, and—most recently—Pride Foundation, as a member of our statewide Leadership Team. Last August, he hosted a house party in the legendary “Pavilion” in his backyard, bringing together grantees and volunteers and introducing us to many people we now count as friends.
