Lesbian Cowgirl Musical in Portland

Famed acting teacher Stella Adler once referred to the theatre as “a place where people come to see the truth about life and the social situation”. BroadArts Theatre is doing just that with their new play, “Bunkin With You in the Afterlife”.

Pride Foundation has always believed in funding the arts as a way to build those important bridges and connections to the human experience. During the 2011 granting cycle we were able to fund three different organizations using art as a vehicle to talk about the issues faced within the equality movement.

“Bunkin’ With You in the Afterlife” is a cowgirl musical written by award-winning author, Jody Seay.

The play is described as being “full of rambunctious fun” this comedy musical centers its attention on the sometimes sensitive topic of religion and spirituality, as well as homosexuality, equality, and women’s rights.

The musical features Minnie Rhodes, a lesbian minister, and her Many Roads Ministry, Cowgirls for the Lord, who ride around on horseback in the deep green hills of conservative southern Oregon spreading, and singing, the good news – not of having been saved – but, indeed, of never actually having been lost.

“Bunkin With You in the Afterlife” opens tonight, January 27 in Portland at 8:00PM and is being held at the Q Center The play runs through March 10.

For a fun and engaging night at the theatre, you can purchase your tickets online and help support a Pride Foundation grantee.
