Pride Foundation has two staff members based in Portland, Oregon, with grantees, scholars, and volunteers located in every corner of the state.
More so than other parts of our region, Oregon has seen increased visibility within the LGBTQ+ community—from the election of the first openly LGBTQ+ governor in the country, to the passage of the first piece of transgender specific legislation, which simplifies the name and gender marker change on Oregon birth certificates.
Despite this incredible progress, rural and remote parts of the state still lack access to safe and inclusive shelters for homeless youth, as well as competent and responsive healthcare. Even in urban and suburban parts of the state, LGBTQ+ people, and in particular LGBTQ+ people of color, are disproportionately impacted by inequities related to homelessness, food insecurity, healthcare access, and more.
In the face of these challenges, our community’s work to address these inequities is creative, determined, and filled with passion. We hope you take a moment to read about our efforts to build a better, safer, and more equitable Oregon.
