Ron grew up in a small rural community in upstate New York. After college he moved to Austin, Texas, where he taught political science at the University of Texas. By the time he retired in 2004, Ron was the associate vice president for Instructional Resources and Technology at Austin Community College. Ron met his husband, Richard, in 1975 at a hippie vegetarian potluck. They became partners in 1977. In 2006 they moved to Portland to pursue their passion for the outdoors, hiking, and great food and drink. After a very long engagement, they married in 2013. Shortly after moving to Portland, Ron became a volunteer with Equity Foundation. He served on the Grants Committee and Juvenile Justice Committee. In 2011 he was appointed treasurer of the Equity Foundation board. Serving on these committees and the board strengthened his commitment to help bring about equality for the LGBTQ community. Ron views the acquisition of Equity Foundation by Pride Foundation as a strategic move by both foundations to provide more resources to meet the needs of the LGBTQ community in Oregon and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
