About the Opportunity
Pride Foundation seeks an experienced professional who brings a strong background in building deep and authentic community relationships, mobilizing resources, and implementing programs to lead our programmatic, development, and community organizing work in Alaska as our Regional Philanthropy Officer (RPO). The Alaska RPO is part of a 5-person regional team of RPOs—one in each of the states where we work—who all represent Pride Foundation in dynamic and innovative ways in the state in which their work is focused.
The RPO in Alaska is responsible for expanding and deepening Pride Foundation’s work throughout the state through fostering local and regional relationships with constituents, including current and prospective donors, grantees, scholars, community members, and volunteers. The RPO will bring and further develop robust understanding of the unique and evolving needs and opportunities of intersectional LGBTQ+ communities in Alaska and help identify how Pride Foundation can best work in service of those needs.
RPOs work is grounded in the state in which they work, and substantial time is spent traveling and developing relationships and connections to diverse communities across the state. To better serve this end, the RPO role is a work-in-home/work-in-place position and we are looking for someone who lives in and/or is deeply familiar with Alaska. The RPO in Alaska reports to the CEO.

Pride Foundation fuels transformational movements to advance equity and justice for LGBTQ+ people in all communities across the Northwest. We envision a world in which all LGBTQ+ people live safely and openly as our whole selves in the communities we call home.
Founded in 1985, we are the only LGBTQ+ community foundation in the Northwest, and have invested more than $72 million in nonprofit organizations, local leaders, and student scholars through our grants, scholarships, and initiatives.
Pride Foundation has a $4 million operating budget with 17 full-time employees. There are 11 staff members located at our headquarters in Seattle, WA, and 6 staff members located outside of Western Washington, with one person in each of the states in which we work (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Central/Eastern Washington) and two people in Oregon. Pride Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors with 19 members from across the five-state region with diverse professional and personal backgrounds.
The Regional Philanthropy Officer has responsibilities across all facets of Pride Foundation’s work and is an integral part of each of our teams, including programs (grants, scholarships, and initiatives), resource development, regional program team, and communications.
Their focus is to increase Pride Foundation’s understanding of the landscape and key issues communities face across the region by engaging the individuals and communities who are most impacted—particularly communities of color, trans communities, indigenous communities and tribal nations, immigrant communities, and rural communities—enabling us to make more informed investments and identify opportunities for support.
- Collaborate with Pride Foundation’s program staff to implement community grants and scholarship programs and coordinate local review processes for each.
- Support a portfolio of organizations and students in applying for funding from Pride Foundation.
- Recruit, facilitate, and support a team of volunteer reviewers for grants and scholarships.
- Review and evaluate grant applications and conduct site visits.
- Communicate Pride Foundation’s funding priorities throughout the state.
- Support grant, scholarship, and sponsorship applicant and recipient communications.
- Coordinate annual regional events for grantee and scholar recognition.
- Maintain and cultivate relationships with LGBTQ+ and allied organizations and leaders throughout the state.
- Support Pride Foundation development staff in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of current and prospective local donors.
- Lead local fundraising events and activities, including event planning and production, with support from the development team.
- Identify new stakeholders to develop and deepen initiative work and relationships.
- Participate in and, when appropriate, convene, teams or coalitions of diverse local volunteers, stakeholders, and community leaders within the state to advance Pride Foundation’s mission, vision, and strategic goals and priorities.
- Identify, cultivate, and support community members and groups for long-term engagement with Pride Foundation’s local or state-specific work, such as issue-based coalitions, legislative advocacy, policy development, and convenings.
- Individually identify opportunities for Pride Foundation to deepen our relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, increase visibility of our work, and build a statewide network of support for our programs and fund development efforts.
- As opportunities emerge, contribute to, support, and engage in local community-building activities related to LGBTQ+ movement building.
- Continuously deepen understanding of the region to inform state-specific priorities and workplan.
- Help network and connect local LGBTQ+ resources as needed in local communities/regions.
Communications: Raise Awareness
- Be a spokesperson for and represent Pride Foundation at local community and social events, with media, state and local government, and other opportunities that emerge.
- Support communications efforts by generating blog posts, media releases, letters, speeches, and other communications sharing details of Pride Foundation’s work.
- Raise visibility of Pride Foundation’s work through outreach, tabling, media connections, fundraising events, scholarship and grant celebrations, and other avenues.
- Commit to taking initiative to expand understanding of racial equity principles and practice and incorporate throughout work at Pride Foundation.
- Contribute to developing a culture of philanthropy at Pride Foundation.
- Participate in shaping the organizational culture at Pride Foundation to be mission-focused, equitable, inclusive, and engaged.
Skills and Experience
Ideal candidates will have these skills and competencies:
- Pride Foundation is committed to building a racially just, equitable, and inclusive environment through all levels of the organization. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated understanding and experience working on issues related to racial, LGTBQ+, gender, economic, and reproductive justice, and working in communities comprised of diverse people.
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in organizing, fundraising, and/or community development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including giving public talks/workshops, building relationships, and/or facilitation.
Ideal candidates will have these characteristics:
- Demonstrated commitment to Pride Foundation’s mission and racial justice.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and remotely, as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work well under pressure with high-level volunteers, board members, donors, and staff as a team leader, team player, and project manager.
- Well organized, detail-oriented, and able manage multiple tasks in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to gracefully manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
- Strong track record providing timely, responsive, and reliable service.
- A commitment to providing quality stewardship to all Pride Foundation constituents, and the ability to develop a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers, board members, community partners, and grantees.
- Flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and occasionally travel.
Preferred skills and competencies include:
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities and/or communities disproportionately impacted by injustice, including communities of color, trans communities, indigenous communities and tribal nations, immigrant communities, rural communities, etc.
- Experience working within the nonprofit or foundation community in the Northwest.
- Experience working within philanthropy.
Salary and Benefits
Pride Foundation determines its staff salaries using the Washington Nonprofit Wage & Benefit Annual Survey. Each salary is based on the average of similar positions in organizations of comparable size and are competitive for the field. For this position, the salary range is $48,000-$52,000, depending on experience.
