Our Programs
Pride Foundation promotes philanthropy and leadership in the Northwest's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. We accomplish this through grants to organizations, scholarships to students and leadership development opportunities. Pride Foundation's work is made possible by the over 4,000 donors who support us every year. Pride Foundation funds in the Northwest states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
- Our grants provide critical funding to organizations strengthening the LGBT community. Each year we invest in more than 60 organizations of all sizes - from small grassroots organizations that you might never have heard of, to established leaders in our community. Granting areas include Health, Education, Advocacy, Arts & Recreation, HIV/AIDS Prevention & Care, and Youth & Family. Since our first grants in 1987, we have granted more $7.2 million to more than 500 organizations in the Northwest.
- Recognizing the unique challenges of LGBT and straight-ally students, Pride Foundation began our scholarship program to develop tomorrow's leaders that work for social justice. Since 1993 we have helped more than 750 students achieve their educational goals by providing more than $1.4 million dollars in scholarships. Many of our scholars have faced challenges in their life, from lack of family support to outright hostility in their schools. They have persevered and are now studying all disciplines, from medicine and engineering to teaching and social work, and everything in between.
- In 1997, Pride Foundation began its shareholder activism, asking companies that we invest in to include sexual orientation in their non-discrimination policies. Since that time we have worked with McDonald's, General Electric, Wal-Mart, Emerson and others to update their policies and provide a fairer workplace for their employees.
-
Realizing that LGBT people living in different areas face unique challenges, Pride Foundation began our regional community organizing, which brings resources and visibility to LGBT people and organizations all over our region. The challenges faced by LGBT people in rural areas are vastly different than those living in large urban centers. Pride Foundation’s community organizing recognizes that people who live in any given area are the experts about the needs of their community and puts the decision-making in their hands
